Nobody wants a 1st gen iPhone any more, but the 3G is still current even now the 3GS is out. The second generation iMac was still handy long after it came out and obsoletenatored the first gen. I understand from Apple’s point of view why they would put them on sale for pre-order, if only for the reason that they can gauge interest in their new product. Having said that there are many free proxies out there that would let you connect to the site with a US IP address, but that certainly is NOT the point. Google fail on that one in my opinion. O2 in the UK won't even let you open their site if you are not in the UK. So if I were an O2 customer travelling abroad, I could not idly sit by a beach browsing the phone I was going to buy when I returned - I would be greeted by two things: a page telling me I was not welcome, and an overpowering urge to go to Orange's or Vodafone's websites :) Yeah – and you would think that someone like Google should understand better than most! O2 in the UK won’t even let you open their site if you are not in the UK. Even though I do have a US address and US credit card, the fact that I was trying to purchase a Nexus One coming from a "FOREIGN" address was a big no no in Google's eyes... Perhaps they should read 'Lexus & The Olive Tree' so they could understand what globalization is. I hear you loud and clear.
