Yeah, but then you'd end up buying another one in a year that will stay current a lot longer.

Nobody wants a 1st gen iPhone any more, but the 3G is still current even now the 3GS is out. The second generation iMac was still handy long after it came out and obsoletenatored the first gen.

I see no reason why the iPad would be any different.

Spadge - you forget that these are fanbois you are talking about.

Seriously, I would buy one. I just don't see the point of pre-ordering something a month away. I understand from Apple's point of view why they would put them on sale for pre-order, if only for the reason that they can gauge interest in their new product. I just don't understand why the tech press is wanking itself silly over this one single product.

Damn - I did say "wanking" after all.

Yeah - and you would think that someone like Google should understand better than most! Having said that there are many free proxies out there that would let you connect to the site with a US IP address, but that certainly is NOT the point. Google fail on that one in my opinion.

O2 in the UK won't even let you open their site if you are not in the UK. So if I were an O2 customer travelling abroad, I could not idly sit by a beach browsing the phone I was going to buy when I returned - I would be greeted by two things: a page telling me I was not welcome, and an overpowering urge to go to Orange's or Vodafone's websites :)

I hear you loud and clear. I wanted to order a Nexus One phone to ship to my mom so she could bring it over when she visits, but Google said I'm not worthy since my IP address is outside the US... Even though I do have a US address and US credit card, the fact that I was trying to purchase a Nexus One coming from a "FOREIGN" address was a big no no in Google's eyes... Perhaps they should read 'Lexus & The Olive Tree' so they could understand what globalization is.

It's an Apple product. Unless you actually NEED one right now this minute, you wait until generation two is out before you buy one anyway.
